Snow patches
The artist Josef Loretan has grown up in Valais and lives in Bern. Snow and ice in the Alps are a frequently recurring motif in his works. For «Passage», he designed «snow patches» for various benches on the Gemmi Pass hiking route. These are upholstered seat cushions made of white artificial leather that look like patches of snow, which are typical of alpine regions at the transition of the seasons. However, these white cushions are more than just resting cushions, as they not only invite you to sit comfortably and softly, but also to reflect on climate change and its consequences.
