Snow depth panorama Gemmi (1966-2025) and Ascensione Gemmi 2016

Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller live in Zurich and have been working together as an artist duo since 2003. The central themes of their installations, videos and performances are the relationships between technical achievements and cultural history, between energy production and waste. They position a «snow depth panorama Gemmi (1966-2025)» on the grounds of the Lämmerenhütte SAC on the basis of official measurement series of snow depths in Leukerbad (since 1966) and on the Trubelboden (since 1996). The measurement series were originally set up for hazard management purposes, but today they are important data for climate research. Hemauer / Keller comment on these with local and global events from ecology, science and culture over the last 60 years. This makes it clear how climate, resource management and cultural practice are interlinked. The Lämmerenhütte SAC is also presenting a series of photos «Ascensione Gemmi 2016» documenting the flight of a solar balloon that Hemauer / Keller developed to investigate changes in the blue sky. In spring 2016, they launched the balloon into the stratosphere from the Gemmi Pass.

The «snow depth panorama» is positioned at the Lämmerenhütte SAC.
The panorama is based on official measurement data since 1966.
