Open Salar System
In his projects and installations, the Geneva-based artist deals with economic and ecological themes and raw materials. His new work encourages a fundamental reflection on the importance of the exchange of goods. He will place his «Open Salar System» on the highest point of the Gemmi Pass route. An oversized shelf made of wood will be fitted with large, sculptural-looking containers made of cement and salt. Salt was long a historical commodity that was transported across the Alps between the south and north. Today it is no longer of great importance as a commodity or currency; it is used to melt snow or in agriculture to supplement livestock feed. Now there are other important commodities such as oil and raw materials. But even these will be replaced by other value systems and goods in the future.
